Belmont sits on the eastern shore of Lake Macquarie, strung along the Pacific Highway between Jewells and Marks Point. A lot of the homes off the highway and down toward the lake were built in the 1950s and 60s, and many still have their original meter boxes and ceramic fuses.
Salt air off the lake and the coast is hard on outdoor power points and lighting, so weather-rated fittings matter more here than in the suburbs further inland. Half of Belmont is 48 or older, and plenty of our jobs here are about making a home easier to live in: brighter lights on the hallway and the back steps, a power point raised to a height that saves bending, a hardwired smoke alarm that has started chirping at 3am.
Down by the water, boat sheds and garages often hang off one old circuit run out from the house decades ago. Have it checked before a compressor or a chest freezer goes on it.
Up toward Belmont North and Croudace Bay, the 1970s brick-veneer homes are where most of our switchboard upgrades happen. The eastern shore runs on Ausgrid's network, so when a job needs the supply cut at the pole, we book Ausgrid and give you the date before anything is switched off.
